Undefeated and untied, #1 Akron be will at UIC on Wednesday. Let's hope for a BIG crowd, and a BIGGER win. We've started off slow this year, but we appear to be rounding into form now after a 3-0 win vs Wisconsin and a 3-1 win vs WSU. We are undefeated in our last 6. John Trask recruited Caleb Porter (coach of Akron) while at Indiana. He's done a great job of bringing talent to Akron. Should be a very interesting match, but Akron has owned teams this year, only giving up 1 goal in 9 games while scoring 20+. They've been outshooting their opponents by a WIDE margin.

So how is this game going to shape out? Does UIC have a good chance? Is the defense solid enough to slow down Akron and give the Offense a chance?
Any one who has been to some games this year have any ideas?

I have been to one game and seen the one on television this year. However, I saw the UAB game and with our recent history in the past 5 or 6 games, we have played a lot better than that game.
Akron is the #1 for a reason. The stats that Big D gave are all true. They have given up 1 goal all year. They lead the nation in goals per game. They are the unanimous top team in the country three weeks running. They have national team players and All Americans all over the field. They have outsocred opponents 26-1.
But let's not take anything away from our guys. We got off to a rough start but we are a very good team as well. I believe that Trask will have our guys ready, focused, and not intimidated. I will say that it will be a tough game, but of course we have a chance.
No prediction for me - I predicted we beat UAB 3-0 so I give up on soccer predictions for this year! But I think it could be a really good game.

I predict a tie, which will be bittersweet. Wish I could be there...

Great game for UIC to have and play. Great attendance and fan/student support. Much better than at basketball games.............. Too bad the result wasn't a win, or even a tie......... Clearly Akron was the better team on the field all night. They CONTROLLED the ball and play for easliy 75% of the time. Very strong offensively, persistent, great ball handlers and control. Very well schooled and great execution. Can easily see whey the score so much and get so many shots......I thought we did play well, holding them scoreless in the first half with them having the ball for about 40 of the 45 mins..... We had a flurry of chances in a short period of time with repeated corner kicks in the second half with one shot hitting a post and a couple other near misses, but that was it until late and our lone score when it was 2 to 0 already. We didn't generate any real sustained offensive attacks or time of possession to give our defensive play a break and our guys a chance to stop chasing them.. May have worn down a bit in the second half from constantly chasing and defending...Good game, though. Have to raise the bar on our play to be able to play with these guys and hopefully we can get a chance at a rematch in the later rounds of the NCAAs this year. Have to take care of business and win the conference first...Maybe some of these folks would like to come to a basketball game? ?
