During halftime of the Cleveland State/UIC game on Jan 9,2010, the announce had an interview with the President of Cleveland State. One of the topics they talked about was Cleveland State tossing around the idea of a football team. As a matter of fact the school will be having a referendum about it sometime this year.
Wow! And all we can do is come up with excuses about how much it will cost and something has to go because of Title IX.

If we could properly fund our soccer program and have a successful basketball program that generated some revenue, I love the idea. I love the idea anyway, but the big wigs in Urbana would never consider it.

I think the Cleveland idea of a football team is out of context. They originally had a plan to be done by 7/1/09. The previous president Cleveland said that he expected the program to pay for itself...highly unlikely.
I'm not sure Title IX and cost are the biggest issues for us when it comes to fielding a football team. We can always add Women's Soccer to comply. I really think it relates to facilities for the team. We could play at Soldier Field or some other location, hopefully somewhere near campus to make it attractive to the students. (We don't want a DePaul basketball situaiton) But what about practice? Where would practice be held? Where would the equipment be housed? (Believe me, there is a lot of equipment for a football team) Then, prepare to take a beating for a few years in regards to recruiting. The prepare to take a beating for a few years in regards to winning and lossing. Then prepare to take a beating in the finances, when it comes to millions of dollars per year.
