If anyone is interested, Alabama is offering a free broadcast for the games this weekend. I watched last nights game and the feed was great. There was no commentary, just a live mic and you can hear the people in the booth in the back ground. I am getting ready to watch game #2 of the series now. Hopefully we will have better results today.

We got nipped 25-1 by Alabama in the 1st game. The game was called after 6 1/2 innings due to the slaughter rule. In 4 of our 5 losses thus far, we have given up 13,20,16, and 25 runs. In the other loss, only 9 runs-- practically a shutout.
The Freshmen that I thought looked promising last week? Err, not so much. Two of them gave up 19 runs in 5 innings of "relief". I guess they can be considered "closers". They gave up so many runs that the game was "closed" early.
The said thing is that Alabama isn't even ranked in the top 30. Ouch. Wait till we play #5 Georgia Tech in May.

Well, UIC just lost the night cap 4-3. The score may be closer but the game was not good. Another 4 errors in this game. UIC had 2 errors in game 1. I don't quite recall how many errors they had to open the series on Friday. Anyway, the total would be pathetic. There is so much blame to go around for the embarrassing weekend that I will focus on the positives.
Kovacevich and Garcia pitched really well. Two quality starts from these guys. Heesch also pitched well in relief in 2 games. He was certainly not to blame for blowing game 3 in this series. That was set up by another error.
We only scored 8 runs in 3 games. Actually, we may have committed more errors than runs scored. This team needs some work but there are some nice pieces to work with. It's tough to work on a lot of things when your field is covered with a foot of snow and you are stuck working in a gym. Believe me, I know. Because this team basically looks like a team that just got out of the gym. I really think they will improve once they can start practicing outside a bit and get some real bounces.
Hopefully Orf is ready to go soon. Don't know what is wrong with him. I would also like to see Heesch get a spot in the rotation. Between last year and the start of this year, he has earned it. I don't know who the closer will be this year because I don't believe that has been warranted. Anyway, here's to looking forward to next weekend.
