After an unnecessary, probably intentional slap in the face "we're better than you" comment made towards UIC by John Trask after the Wisconsin loss, UIC lost to Loyola at home and ended their season without participating in the HL tournament.
What a disaster of a season. Injuries or not....for us to not be one of the top 6 teams in the HL is simply unacceptable. Meanwhile, Butler is dominating every sport in the HL.
Get with it UIC....!!!
Coach Phillips better have a great offseason. Recruiting is going to have to be stepped up quite a bit, because forget about the national level....we're not even competing in conference.

Yes, the record is pathetic, but what is even more pathetic is that the Loyola fans took over Flames Field tonight.
Can you imagine that? They took over our field. Those stupid pieces of you-know-what took over our field. Personally, I think they should have head their heads beaten in a "welcome to the West Side" moment when they started chanting "this is our house", but it is probably better that no violence ocurred.
I can't really blame the students, though, because UIC's games are no fun to watch. UIC is a glorified high school team. If they have superior talent, they win, but when they don't, they lose because there is no overall strategy or anything unifying the individual efforts of the players.
Loyola came in to Flames Field with a game plan. They were totally organized on defense, they knew what they wanted to do on offense. Yes...Loyola actually rotated their attackers when their offense was set! Can you imagine that?? I can't, because that is clearly NOT in the vocabulary of UIC. UIC's offense is 100% percent based on waiting for a catastrophic defensive screwup.
It is so pathetic it is laughable, but this is what Jim Schmidt has decided is we deserve as UIC fans,. So fasten your seat belts, because more is on the way. UIC is an incredibly badly coached team, and how this zombie of a head coach keeps his job is beyond me.
I feel really bad for players like Frazier and Radice who are playing their hearts out for this suckfest of a program.
Hopefully, they will smell the cofee and transfer out, because I am more interested in American player development than I am in my alma mater's sucking only slightly less because they have a few promising players.
And just so those of you who don't "get" this sport understand:
You CAN, believe it or not, call plays when your offense is set. You can rotate wings, switch positions, do all kinds of things to set up mismatches - IF YOU WANT TO. If you don't, you can stand around with your Yo-yo in your hands and just pretend you are playing soccer. THAT, unfortunately, is the modus operandi of the UIC Flames under the current head coach.
And not to make excuses, but the undeniable fact is that UIC, under John Trask (with a few notable exceptions), did a craptastic job of recruiting. JT's greatest sucess was with a team that, for the most part, his predecessor recruited, and because of his less-than-stellar evaluation abilities, he is not regarded as a top-tier NCAA coach, which means he will have to prove himself from scratch at UW-Wisconsin if he wants to go back to MLS, a move that seems more unlikely with every crappy season he has running his variation of the Mexican offense.
Recrutingwise, John Trask's staff SUCKED, as in, second or third tier.,as was evident tonight when the head coach TRIED to play Mo Diallo - a highly-touted recruit in his time - and couldn't leave him in the game because he MO HAD NO IDEA OF WHAT HE WAS SUPPOSED TO DO. That is not a player failure. That is a coaching failure.
UIC soccer is in a hopeless state, and with the current Athletic Director, you can bet the ranch that we'll see this useless dead weight of a coaching clusterf@#! continue until the program is totally dead, just like it was with basketball and is with baseball. No Accountability = sucky results, and No Acountability = UIC.
It saddens me, this is the harsh reality. UIC needs to clean house, and get rid of the dead weight has been hired, but won't because the Athletic Director, as Stomper told him top his face, lacks the balls.

You think you are a tad overboard in your evaluation of these two programs. What do you think are realistic expectations that aren't being met?

I was at the game. I am trying to remain optomistic, but it looks to me that the talent just is not there. We have a few good players, but are extremely slow and unathletic, especially in the back, and there are only a couple of skilled players. It is a bad combination to be slow, unathletic and unskilled. The kids play hard, and it looks like the coaches work hard, but we need to get some athletes and skilled players in here. Otherwise, I just don't see how anything can change.

You think you are a tad overboard in your evaluation of these two programs. What do you think are realistic expectations that aren't being met? i have the same question! Realistic expectations that are not being met? How about scoring some goals? How about winning at home? How about being competitive in the Horizon League? Are those not realistic expectations? UIC's record the last two seasons speaks for itself, as do last season's home losses to DePaul and Loyola. Other than the fact that the team wasn't close to competing for the Horizon title and is a complete, total bore to watch, they did great. If you enjoy watching a team where a select few have the talent and drive to make things happen, while the rest just go through the motions, then by all means, go to the games. The crowds are getting so small, you'll even get to know the player's parents. Me? I am not interested in watching glorified high school team, which is what was on the field last season. If the athletic department ever decides to get serious about UIC soccer, I'll be back. Until then, I've got some paper clips that need to be filed.
