I suppose signing one All - State player is a good start. I mean, it's still early, but they need to make some big changes. I would think that they still have a little bit of attraction still because of some of their fairly recent success in the NCAA Tournament. However, whatever they might have is quickly fading and they better turn things around quick.

I want to know how we're going to catch Butler. Even if we signed one all-stater, Butler is on that same list for signing one as well....a guy with ridiculous stats - 20 goals, 19 assists (or something like that).....right out of our backyard.
Btw, Butler was awarded a #13 seed in the NCAA tourney, they get a first round bye and will host a 2nd round game. And, on their board, someone had the nerve to mention they got screwed big time. Didn't we get screwed royally a few years ago in the same season we were as high as like 3 or 4 or 5 and had actually beaten ranked opponents (on the road)?

Nothing new listed on ESPN Rise or to be found on Big Soccer message boards. Nothing will be official until about August because, for some reason, that's how UIC rolls. But am surprised nothing from any players or coaches being said. I would find it hard to think this is a good thing!

On an article about the 2010 All State team from the Tribune, they mention Paul Hogan, also from Downers Grove North. Just so happens he was Player of the Year by the Sun Times. He was offered by UIC, the article says, but his coach is quoted as saying he 'believes bigger schools will come'. Hard to feel good about him coming to UIC with that in his ear.

UIC knows it can't compete recruiting-wise with the highest tier of schools and it's delusional to think that they can. If you're an 18 year old and you get an offer from UIC and one from UCLA it's going to be hard to turn down UCLA. UIC is building a name for itself in soccer but let's not pretend it's going to be pulling in five star recruits left and right even if they are from Illinois.

Signing day is Tuesday. Anyone have an idea as to who might sign? Does anyone know what happen to last years recruit Marco Gueterriz? He looked like a good player. Finally, I don't understand why UIC would not be an attractive place for a high school kid to play soccer and go to school if your are an Illinois kid. The schools are limted in their scholarship money. If you are from Illinois and get a 1/2 scholarship to UIC and UCLA I have to believe that the cost difference is dramatic because the Illinois kid gets in state tuition. UIC has a great soccer facilty, and a great atmosphere for soccer when the team is doing well. The school is in downtown Chicago, one of the greatest cities in the world and academically the school appears to be solid. The conference UIC plays in is not the best but is nowhere near the worst, and the out of conference schedule is always strong. If you are interested inplaying pro you have the Fire right down the road who can come out and watch you play. The coaching staff has a strong backround. I don't get it?

So I checked ESPN Rise and they have a list of recruits for college soccer. Now I am not sure how official these lists are because on it they ask you to email them if you have any information. However, they have never made a mistake regarding UIC in the past.
On it, they list 3 recruits for UIC. A few days ago, they only had one - All State player Marcin Modzelewski that we all already knew about.
The other two players are public league stars. The first, who was mentioned earlier in this Piotr Lagowski from Taft High School. He is a big time scorer who has more goals than games played at Taft. The other player is Emmanuel Guzman of Lane Tech.
Doing some quick research, found some information on the two of them. A blog that actually writes on Public League sports ranked them 1 and 2 in terms of public league soccer. I also read that Guzman had a little injury this year which held him back.

Espn Rise has another recruit listed for us...Isai Lemus, a midfielder from Lincoln College. He had 6 goals and 8 assists in 11 games last year.

Fairly old news according to the article but Paul Hogan, the Player of the Year by the Chicago Tribune who had an offer from UIC has chosen to take his talents to NIU. Looks like we're back on track!
