Bad news for the Flames. Nathan Orf has transferred to Baylor. That is a big loss heading into this season. Also, Michael Heesch has transferred as well. Don't know where he ended up. Heesch had a ton of potential but always seemed to have an era around 5.00. Still thought UIC could use him this season to eat up some innings. Pitching really killed the Flames last season.

It seems as though Michael Heesch has transferred to a school by the name of USCB. For those that didn't know (like me) the B stands for Beaufort. Transfers hurt. The baseball team spends a lot of money on their program compared to other Horizon League teams and we have had some down years the past few seasons.

OK UICJohn, what group does it place me in if I need help with the USC part as well? Southern California, South Carolina, Southern Christian, ? Agreed that the losses hurt. Seems like some solid players going. Is it the norm to lose some to southern schools because of weather, playing conditions, exposure? Didn't seem to hurt Curtis Granderson, though.....

I remember when we signed Heesch. He was also recruited by major programs but chose UIC because, among other things, he was impressed by the Chicago skyline that he could see from the pitcher's mound.
Incidentally, how the mighty have fallen. He is now "in the hunt" for a starter's job at NAIA school University of South Carolina at Beaufort.
Something doesn't sound right about this whole thing. Anybody have any connections on the inside?

I might be wrong but I am fairly sure that Michael Heesch gave a verbal to Nebraska before going back on that and actually ending up at UIC.
I have absolutely no inside knowledge with the situation but with how highly touted he was coming into UIC, I thought he would be playing a much bigger role for us by now. Perhaps he was upset with his playing time? If that's the case though, I have no idea why he would choose some random school in Beaufort, South Carolina. Baseball is different than other sports because you will see guys drafted high from small schools (for example, Triton College has had a few guys in their past) but it does seem a little odd.

Some fun facts about the USCB program:
Pre-season No. 18 in the NAIA rankings.
Entering their 3rd season with their baseball program.

Beaufort is near Hilton Head...that might make someone leave.
