We just got swept by UWM at home. Is it too early to panic? Not sure what triggered the downfall, but how long is our rebuilding job going to take? It seems that we've lost some key players before graduation over the last few years (since our last tourney appearance). But UIC has dominated this conference, we have the best baseball field in the HL and great academics, and we're in the best city. Again, this is another no-brainer to me....we should be the best team in the HL, but we're not. I know it's not that easy, but you have to wonder how UWM, with awful facilities (from their own fans' mouths), can attract better players than ours. No HL team should be able to sweep us at home.

I've talked to people in the League office many a time. There are people who no longer work for the conference that have told me the prevailing belief in the League office is that if everything is going right, Milwaukee and UIC, not Butler, should be the schools walking all over the conference. We, essentially, are the big state schools; while we have the size (32,000 students, 150,000 alumni), you still have size and the best academics of any of our public schools.
That said, we have no competition. We are the one and only D-I baseball program in the state. The best players in Wisconsin always come here, unless they are the true elite and go down south. We have the last five state players of the year on our current roster, get a ton of the local talent, and have a great coaching staff.
I think the Horizon League should freak out if we ever get a permanent home. I keep pointing to Miller Park, as the Vice President of the Brewers is brothers with one of our biggest donors.

Things are starting to look up. With this weekend's sweep of Butler and last weekend's double dip against Wright State, we have won 5 conference games in a row.
On top of that, we are doing it mostly with underclassmen. None of our starting pitchers are seniors. Of the position players, this weekend we started 3 freshmen and 2 sophomores.
Still, I see your point, Big D. With everything that UIC has to offer (excellent city, school, facilities, etc), a team at or near the top of the conference standings should be an expectation every year.

I also think that UIC spends the most of any Horizon League team when it comes to their baseball program (and I think by a pretty good margin as well).
