Chances are no one will read this, but here it goes, anayway.
What a horrible ending to the season. As a #2 seed, we lose to the #4 and #6 (last) seeds and give up double-digit runs in both games.
The key to lasting deep into the tourney, more so than the seed, is to win the first game. We blew that when the bullpen couldn't hold 2 leads and the "defense" gave up 4 of the runs that were the difference in the 11-9 loss to Valpo.
Because Thursday's games were rained out, we had to play 3 games in 20 hours. That's what happens when you're in the loser's bracket. Had we won that first game, we would have played no more than one game per day.
Obviously, no excuses but a very dissapointing end to a disappointing season.
Another curiosity: Coach Dee, for the second year in a row, never used his best starter--Salemi. Just like last year (with Heesch), he saved him for the 4th game that never was!! (I'm assuming that Salemi was not injured, of course.)
Finally, maybe next season we can find a shortstop who can field the position. Between Shober and Leonard, they made 28 errors at SS--including the aforementioned ones in the Valpo game that were the difference.

The worst part about the baseball team is just how much we spend on that sport. I tried to find it but someone put out an article about the Horizon League spending I want to say about a year ago. It showed what each team spends and in each sport. UIC was far and away the biggest spender in the Horizon League with some assistants making close to what other schools head coach was making. And when you invest your money in anything, you have to look at what you're getting out of it. We are not getting out of that team what we should be. Post-season appearances is the only measurement that matters and didn't accomplish that this season.
