We had a heck of a start to our season with a thrilling home game versus GTech. Everything went downhill from that point onwards pretty much.
Frustration is pouring over me, but oh well. We will miss Cedrick Banks and Armond Williams badly. I wonder if our decent recruits will be able to really take leadership next year. The ROCK will definitely be a plus, as will Elliot Poole.
If we don't win the HL tourney, we probably will not even get an NIT invite. If we WIN the rest of our schedule, we might end up with an 80 RPI or around there, and that MIGHT be enough to get an NIT bid...
What does everyone else think? Will we get an NIT bid? I kind of want an NIT bid at this point because at least in the NIT we can win some games. In the tournament, no matter how good we are (i.e. last season's 12 game winning streak going into the NCAA tourney), we will get no better than a 13 seed and MAYBE a 12 seed. 1st round loss is imminent...
So, can we be NIT bound if we win out the rest of the regular season and a couple games in the HL tournament?

The NIT is a big question mark. When you look at our wins, we really don't have any big name ones that would look good on our resume. It is always possible to win the HL Tourney, but unlikely. Next year will be interesting to say the least.

They might want a Chicago team just to spark regional interest.
But even under that theory, DePaul would be their first choice.
So if the Demons go to the NCAA, it is conceivable that we might sneak in.
But honestly, do we even deserve to be there?

I think if we can end with 16 wins and stay in the top 100 RPI, we will likely get an invite, even with the bad losses. The recent NIT expansion to 40 teams (I think??) will help us a lot. Generally, they take the next 40 best teams after those picked for the NCAA. If we're in the top 90, we should get there. But I do think we'll have to win at least 16 games...that means we have to go at least 6-2 the rest of the way.

There is no way UIC gets into the NIT....They would have to run house and get to the championship and lose to UWM to even be considered. I dont know their exact record but I thought it was 10-11. Am I way off base??I honestly dont know....But just guessing that 5-5 in a below avg conference is not gonna get it done

The NIT has everything to do with name recognition and little to do with achievement. I don't know how this bodes for UIC. It could go either way.
The other thing is always RPI remember, and UIC has a pretty decent one. If we were to win some games here at the end, it would be even better.
We'll see. The NIT selection committee is meaningless, so I can't really speculate.

I think the NIT would be well deserved. This is a program that 10 years ago was nothing and now has had post season play for the last 3 years. It would be a nice way of rewarding Jimmy and the team for making us a legitimate mid-major team.

Start sending care packages to Marquette. That'll will help your NIT chances with the "committee." Give it a rest. You had your chance to play Marquette and you lost your game.

Actually, you're not agreeing. Which is it? He says no way we go...you say we're going to the "NOT."

Actually, you're not agreeing. Which is it? He says no way we go...you say we're going to the "NOT." I think he meant that the only chance at postseason we're gonna have is if we win the HL tourney....otherwise we're going to the NOT (as in we're NOT going anywhere)

Ahh, I have often seen the NIT referred to as the NOT. That was my confusion.
I disagree entirely, though. Being that the NIT has an inkling for name recognition, and that we've played big schools this year, been on TV, have a decent RPI, and have been in the tournament, they may very well want to take us. DePaul is going to the tournament, so they might want some Chicago action, although NU could be a choice as well.

As far as the NIT being all about name recognition though, I agree for the most part, but if you look at past backets, many teams playing are anything but the most well known teams. UWM, Western Michigan, Rice, etc... UIC has a good chance of making it, we'll just have to put ourself in the position where they have no choice. Oh, and if they chose NU over UIC, I'd probably throw a fit. Yes, they're in the Big 10, but their non-conference ranking is over 100 (ours is now 2). Plus, they have a worse record than us (or it's very close), and their RPI is over 150. There is no reason for UIC to lose a spot to NU....I'd be very disappointed if that happened.
