Anyone who says theyd rather play in the NIT instead of the tournament is completely gutlless and should think about switching to pads with wings. My goal is still to go the big dance and other than not having homecourt advantage we can still go into the conference tournament with the same chances we would have had at the begining of the year. If we did get to the tournament I'd like a 16th seed so we could try to make history and upset a #1 seed.
The talk of rewarding Jimmy really hits a nerve. He does not know how to coach. I give him a D for the job he has done this year. I give our AD a F, because he gave JImmy a extension to his contract this summer. Hopefully They dont bus in the crowd this weekend to help Jimmy get the attendance to 4000. He in know way deserves getting a bonus this year

Stomper, How true. You stopped short however. Manning deserves much of the credit for the direction of the program. Try to get into the Dragon's den with all the freeloaders she invites. You can't get a beer at half time.

You can't get a beer at half time. Yea whats with that, there are way to many people down in the den, it makes me sick, how many people are actually buying there meal tickets. All I want at half time is a wide open lane to the beer, and a couple of hot dogs, get the people who are not paying out!

Yeah, I remember it being referred to as the NOT as well. As far as the NIT being all about name recognition though, I agree for the most part, but if you look at past backets, many teams playing are anything but the most well known teams. UWM, Western Michigan, Rice, etc... UIC has a good chance of making it, we'll just have to put ourself in the position where they have no choice. Oh, and if they chose NU over UIC, I'd probably throw a fit. Yes, they're in the Big 10, but their non-conference ranking is over 100 (ours is now 2). Plus, they have a worse record than us (or it's very close), and their RPI is over 150. There is no reason for UIC to lose a spot to NU....I'd be very disappointed if that happened. I think looking at the fact that we beat NU the last year and the year before by 17 points each time should matter. But I don't think they look too into that kind of thing.

But even under that theory, DePaul would be their first choice. So if the Demons go to the NCAA, it is conceivable that we might sneak in. But honestly, do we even deserve to be there? is anyone following depaul? how are they doing this year? are they going to make the tourney? i know they beat marquette, but is that enough for them to get in? if depaul goes to the nit, then at least they won't be taking TOO much attention away from us... We need to run the table from here on out, starting with a POUNDING of YSU, and completely eradicate UWGB later in the regular season. Seriously, I am pushing for an NIT bid now. We need to kick ass for the rest of the season, now that our major tests are over.

I quit buying a den pass after seeing how many freeloaders were allowed. Actually, it is cheaper to buy the food from the concession stand every game instead of the 250 bucks for the den card.

Yea, that tent has been ran poorly for awhile.... I was goign to donate money, but not until athletics gets some things together... some of those guys under the AD border on the line of sexist, among other things.

Many of you have raised the issue of the Dragon's Den. I have had tickets to the Dragon's Den for years and I totally agree. The last couple of years have been unreal - it is loaded with freeloaders that the Athletic Department and the administration allow in at no charge while the actual season ticket holders/basketball fans pay big $s. At times, you cannot even get a seat at a table because of all the non-paying crowd. Many of them do not even know a basketball game is going on, they sit in there as long as they can drinking and eating for free the entire time.

Back to basketball. I think the only way UIC has any chance at the NIT is if they win the remaining 7 games, win 1 or 2 in the Horizon League Tournament and then lose in the Championship to UWM. That scenario would leave them with 18 or 19 wins depending where they finish in the league and how many Horizon League Tournament games they play.

As far as the NIT being all about name recognition though, I agree for the most part, but if you look at past backets, many teams playing are anything but the most well known teams. UWM, Western Michigan, Rice, etc... If you go back and look at the teams that get into the NIT, it is all about the money, not the RPI or quality of the teams. The UWM, Western Michigans that get in are good mid major teams that have at least 18 wins and usually more than 20 wins. Teams that can get in with records closer to 500 are the BCS schools or other programs that can attract big crowds. The University of Dayton has an excellent chance of going to the NIT this year even though they are barely going to finish above 500, because they sell out their games. If they are looking at adding UIC or a team like UD, UD will win every time. The NIT would be assured 12,000+ fans for a UD game, vs the 5-6,000 you guys can bring in. That isn't a knock on UIC. I think you guys are the better team, but the NIT is all about the money. You also have to consider that the HL is going to send 1 team to the dance, which will probably be UWM. If that happens, UWGB will probably get an invite to the NIT. They have the better record, better RPI, and better attendance than UIC. The HL isn't a strong enough conference to send 3 to the post season this year. Heck, we currently only have 2 teams in the whole conference with winning records.

UIC has a better RPI than UWGB...just for reference sake.

When it all comes down to it, could this better schedule really be what keeps us out of postseason play? We scheduled all these great teams, hoping that with 1 or 2 big wins, we may be able to help ourselves get into the postseason. But, that gamble has failed and because we have lost all these games, our record is not the most beautiful thing in the world. Our RPI is still decent for our record, but when being compared to UWGB, who would they pick.....
UWGB is second in the HL, and have a much better record than UIC....they just have a slightly lower RPI. We need to stomp on them when they come to the Pavilion.

Sorry about the error. UWGB is 103 and UIC is 99 in the RPI.

40 NIT teams?
2nd round would have 20.
3rd round would have 10.
4th round would have 5.
How are they gonna have a NIT Final Four with 5 teams still remaining for the possiblity to win the whole thing?
