Hey all,
I put up the first opinion piece on uichoops.com. It's not really about basketball, but it really struck me as odd during the game.
Check it out and tell me what you think.

I thought the skit was perfectly innocent and you are making a big deal out of nothing.
I noticed Sparky also did a skit wearing a bikini. Next thing you are going to say is he is offensive all woman who where bikinis.
If you're going to have a site about basketball I would stick to basketball and not politics.
One last thing. Do you vote domocrat?

One last thing...none of your business. I'm already tired of your comments.
Bikinis are a type of bathing suit women like to wear...blindness is a disability that affects tons of Americans and makes their lives very difficult.
I think there's a big damn difference.

The posts reminds me of the South Park Christmas special where something in the kids production offends someone, and at the end the production is a monotone mess.
I see your point, but I do not think he crossed the line.

No need to get your undies in a bundle. You asked for opinions and I gave it to you. This is why it may not be a good idea to discuss politics and diversity on a basketball board.

Jason LOLOLOLOLOL. UICJason, you have to be joking with this post. I don't know if it's your bored or your just an 80 year old stuck in a 20-something year old body. You basically tore apart your whole argument when you said that fans say "are you blind, ref?" all the time, which is obviously what this skit was referring to. What about when they give away free pizza? Do you think that's offensive to people that are allergic to tomato sauce? Seriously, im not sure if you don't have a job or you were bored at work, but this argument had no merit to it, whatsoever. And secondary, you then proceed to attack the person that responded to you after you said "what do you think". go flames.....

I attacked the person who asked me a pointed question about my politics, as if my politics have something to do with my opinion on this matter. If he had stopped before that, I would have politely disagreed with his opinion. He kept going, however. This has nothing to do with politics.
Sometimes you people have no idea what you're talking about. Bikinis and pizza are two of the worst comparisons I've ever heard. The mascot is making fun of a disease, a disability. This is very different. My entire argument is based on fans being different than a UNIVERSITY EMPLOYEE. The mascot is representative of the university and should not be making fun of things the University is attempting to educate its community on.
Stick to the point by the way...this has nothing to do with my age, job, boredom level or anything. With you, NFG, its all about personal attacks. Everything has to be about the person. It's sophomoric. Disagree with my opinion all you want, but shut the f up about personal stuff. It has no place here. I wrote what I believed.
If you disagree, make a decent point, don't just say LOL and talk about pizza.

Like I said before hunny, you're like an eighty year old in a 20-somethings body. And it's not just this post, it's all of them, you continuously relay your close-minded, oversensitive agenda on everyone else. Pretty soon you're going to say that white's should use different bathrooms from blacks. And yes, I put "LOL" a lot, because when I read your caveman beliefs, I LAUGH! LOLOL. So, respond to me again and say your same old jive, about how you're not going to reply to this, because it's not worth it, even though we all know it's a cop out for you can't defend yourself or your arguments. Maybe we should raise the drinking age to 35, right UICjason?

Maybe we should raise the drinking age to 35, right UICjason? No, I will respond because it's interesting. HOW in the world do you find me to be close-minded? I am one of the most liberal (politically and socially) individuals you will ever meet. I am rereading what I've said and I have NO IDEA where you see closed-minded, old, or any of the like. I'm saying that you shouldn't have University employees making fun of people for being blind. That's all...simple argument. If anything, Jay C was more online with his unnecessary comment of asking if I vote democrat. My opinion does not fall in line with any conservative agenda whatsoever...and it certainly doesn't border on racism or whatever other ridiculous notion you suggest. There is no cop out...I can defend everything I say...but there has been nothing to defend against. You make no point; you make no sense; and you make my head spin with your nonsensical ramblings and negativity. Again, I challenge you to tell me where I am closed-minded or bordering on racism.

My daughter has a disability (celiac disease) which causes a severe reaction to wheat gluten. I don't know many celiacs who would be offended by someone passing out pizza in the stands but I am sure there is some wacko out there who would be. I also think the bikini analogy has some merit. I believe some women in the stands probably felt this was very sexist. Ask any lesbo feminist and I am sure they would agree. Politics has everything to do with your opinion on this matter because this issue is political by nature.

The existence of wheat does not offend your daughter. If people were making fun of referees choking on wheat because they were allergic, it would be a lot less funny, no?

Sparky is an entertainer. He does not represent the views of the University of Illinois.
Maybe they need some type of disclaimer from the announcer before all of Sparky's acts.

Well, you make what should be a great point, but it just isn't true. Bands, cheerleaders, mascots, and others who are expressly given permission and even paid by the University to be at events are not outside the spectrum of representing the University. There have been many cases of this at many schools...a pep band playing a song that pokes fun directly at an issue of an opposing player, etc. Things along those lines. I think people are misunderstanding my argument. I have stated only that a University Employee cannot be doing this. Students can be as big of asswipes as they want, within reason. They paid to get in...or more accurately, their student fees paid to get them in.

The first amendment is still valid even if you get paid. Sparky's act doesn't even border on hate speak, if there is such a thing.

The first amendment is still valid even if you get paid. Sparky's act doesn't even border on hate speak, if there is such a thing. Did I say it was unconstitutional, unlawful, or anything like that? Nope. It clearly isn't....or even close. It is, however, a bad idea for the University. It deflects from major portions of their mission statement. If no one else cares, that's honestly totally fine. It's not a big deal. To me, it was striking, but I have those tendencies to protect minority groups of people from unnecessary stupidity. It's not the end of the world or anything, just something I found interesting.
