It's not often you give a team an "atta boy" after they get swept in a 3-game series. One is deserving in this case, however.
UIC played at Vanderbilt, the #2 ranked team in the country this weekend. After losing 9-0 and getting one hit on Friday, the Flames played excellent baseball on Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday, we were tied 3-3 as late as the 6th inning, before losing 5-3. Sunday, we lost 3-1 in 10 innings.
Not bad, considering the quality of the competition.

Completely agree.
The beginning of the baseball season is tough for northern teams. Little outdoor practice. Always on the road. And we have been playing some top teams with Vanderbilt, being ranked #2 in the country, a championship caliber team. And while being swept is never good, it isn't as though we just had it handed to us.
We are 3-6 which I'm happy with. And besides that 9-0 loss, every other game was close (within 2 runs I believe).
We have to keep it up and take this into Horizon League play though. If we can hang with teams like Texas A&M and Vanderbilt, there is no reason to get knocked around in HL games.
