Those sketches look amazing - and the coolest thing about them is that you are not talking a lot of money to build something like that. I like the way the primary seating faces the skyline, which, if it is ever actually built, should put Flames field on the par with Les Miller as one of the most picturesque college sports facilities in the nation.
My only critique is that the location is not ideal. I would prefere to see the soccer stadium at the corner of Roosevelt and Morgan, where the sculptural entryway would make it a true gateway to the campus, not to mention the fact that the existing soccer field could be kept as a practice field, complete with the jogging track being left intact (which is used a lot by the University Village community).
My gut feeling is that now there is a women's soccer team and the new baseball stadium is (apparently) going forward, the soccer stadium will take the new baseball stadium's spot as the "next" big project for the athletic department.
This proposed soccer stadium would not only be a significant addtion not only for UIC, but for the entire Horizon League. It would signal to the NCAA that soccer matters in the Horizon League, and would hopefully inspire other schools int the league to follow suit.

You're certainly right, Circle. Taking over the parking lot on Roosevelt/Morgan would create a much needed gateway into campus -- but I think that land is spoken for in the master plan. I think they're saving the spot for a governmental library reserve or something. Wherever they put it, it would be a nice addition to campus!

This would be excellent! You know though, just like at the auto show, some of those "concept" cars never come to fruition. If there's nothing being posted on the Official UIC sites in the next week or so, then it might just be a lot of wishful thinking. Again, this would be pretty cool, along with the new Granderson Stadium...Wow!

Those designs really do look pretty incredible. Just very unique and interesting. I hope it does go through.
Things like that could only help recruiting. I am hoping that UIC is realizing this and a reason that they'd want to put money into these things. Curtis Granderson stadium will help the baseball team immensely. So would this for the soccer team.

The more we can improve the facilities, the better. The design looks amazing, but I do echo the author's concern that the seating does kind of create a far goal. Still, awesome design.

Watching the UIC/Drake game on ESPN3 and early in the 2nd half, Kap said he talked to Schmidt who told him that they were building a new $4 million dollar soccer stadium. Pretty awesome. No timetable.

Did anyone notice the quote from Coach Phillips in an article at uicflames.com a week ago? He said "Our future will be impacted dramatically by some ambitious projects that will also be highlighted on Alumni Day [September 20]". So, in 2 weeks we could very well be hearing a new stadium announcement. What else could it be?

Well well. I really hope it is true. The soccer field is nice but nothing really outstanding (then again very few college soccer fields are). I would like to see the soccer team so awarded for their successes. They deserve it as they've been the biggest winner at UIC the past decade.

Additionally, the stadium is on the architects website. Interesting that Coach Phillips helped design. Up to 5,000 capacity. I also like that the new seating will be on the west side of the field - hate 7 PM games where the sun is setting in your eyes. www.jgma.co/projects/uic-soccer-stadium/description.html

Nice find UICJohn...the stadium really looks amazing. If this happens, you have to give credit to UIC for the facility moves as of late...they're trying to upgrade, but we haven't been winning. 5,000 seems huge! I assume this will serve some other purpose as well?

I do like how the story points out that it wants to give UIC an identity. The field is nice now. Great view (granted behind the stands) but nothing special. A stadium like that is just so inviting and impressive and eye catching.
As far as seating, I read 3,000 seats with room around the field for 2,000 more. That seems like a lot of seats as I think we have 1,000 now.
As far as other uses, I'd have to imagine. I don't know where IHSA holds their tournament but it would be a good way to get recruits on the campus. I also read some Tweets about the Chicago Sting possibly making a comeback in the NASL (granted thy were a year old).
