Some miscellaneous info about UIC Baseball if anyone cares : - We just swept Valpo on the road to improve our HL record to 12-9, putting us in sole possession of 2nd place; however, we're still a whopping 6 1/2 games out of 1st place with 9 to play. Wright State also swept their series and is 18-2 in conference.
- UICFlames.com mentioned that we have now won 5 HL series this season. Of course what they don't tell you is that the other 2 series were against Wright State. We got swept both times, losing all 6 games. Had we split those 6 games, or even won 2 games (one game we had a 2 run lead in the 9th with 2 outs and bases empty), this would still be a nice race.
- The Horizon League may be mid-major in most sports, but we are definitely LOW major in Baseball. The HL conference ranks 26th out of 31. Wright State is the "power team" at #86. The other 5 teams are ranked from 206 to 293, out of 302 D1 teams. (UIC is at 251). (source: warrennolan.com/baseball/2014/rpi.)

Not having to play Wright State any longer, the team could conceivably win out the rest of the HL games to finish 21-9. The tough series appears to be Milwaukee. UIC has 4 non-conference games left with NIU, Michigan, Bradley and Northwestern. They should go 2-2 in those games (wins over NIU and Northwestern). A 28-21 record wouldn't be too bad with the ups and downs we've had and with the horrendous defense the team has been playing. Second place would give them a nice seed heading into the HL tournament. Unlike the Missouri Valley, which is ranked #5 and could possibly get 4 teams into regionals, the HL is strictly a one-bid baseball league.

The season has definitely had it's ups and downs but to just see how far Wright State is above us is absolutely disgusting to me. And the results of some of those games against them - not even close affairs.
I knew the HL wasn't ranked very high but I didn't think the MVC was that far up there. Really wish we would have been chosen for the MVC for baseball purposes now. At least there is hope with the baseball program (I have none for basketball)

At least there is hope with the baseball program (I have none for basketball) And that was the very reason a lot of MVC AD's and baseball coaches were upset that the Valley brought in Loyola, which had no baseball! They knew UIC had a baseball team that played pretty good baseball and won conference championships and was in the process of building a brand new baseball stadium. Baseball is the MVC's second sport and they take it very seriously.
