Hello all!
The board has been quiet lately but sports season is starting up!
We all know a majority of the talk on the board revolves around basketball but the soccer program has provided us with some bright spots as well.
Unfortunately, most don't see a bright spot for the team this year as they were picked for 7th place. Yikes! Certainly not an optimistic feeling around this team especially after the incredible disappointment from last season.
I honestly don't know much about the state of the program - they don't get the word out much and websites don't talk much about middle-of-the-road mid majors.
Here's to a good season and hope that 7th place finish doesn't materialize.

UIC knocked off Bradley 2-0 at home in their season opener last night...Bradley is picked as a middle team in the MVC. I'm with you...I don't know too much about the team this year. As I've complained about multiple times, UIC could generate more interest in the program if they started streaming their games...don't know what they're waiting for. I would tune in if they were online (I occasionally watch a road game).
I'm dying for a main sport of ours to have success...every year, we either flat out stink (basketball) or our hopes are up (for whatever reason) and we either fall apart in HL play or lose early in the conference tourney...I'm pretty sure that's become the norm in each of men's soccer, baseball, and softball...and women's tennis has really kind of fallen down the past couple years.

I cannot believe how many other schools stream their soccer matches and we still don't. So pathetic.
It's just sad because I remember not too long ago when we were a national story. Had All Americans, a national ranking, made the Elite 8, and had thousands of fans on hand for big games against the likes of Ohio States. And now a pre-season pick for 7th in a conference with no ranked teams. A big fall.
We know UIC is changing but is still a commuter school. We need success to bring in the fans and we don't have that. We need to create that. Pre-season rankings be damned. We need a win against SMU tomorrow. Plain and simple.
I am upset because we are hoping for A team to step up when other schools, like Butler for example (basketball, soccer, cross country) have multiple strong programs. And even in our league, Oakland and Valpo have strong programs around. We lack a simple identity but honestly it shouldn't be about a sport it an entire program.
I hope that the new Chancellor is serious about sports. He has said he is and that basketball, soccer and baseball lead the way. If they're not performing, with the resources they have, something needs to be changed and in college its the coaches. We have all talked about baseball and the facilities and how they SHOULD dominate. If they don't, hold someone accountable. I remember the days of championships and players getting drafted and signing All State players. We SHOULD still be there but aren't.
I apologize for the rant. I got off of the soccer tangent and glad we won our first game. Keep it up Flames!
