Holy Crap!!!
We beat Vanderbilt 5-2 in 11 innings and take the series 2-1.
Even though we have beaten ranked teams several times before, I believe this is the 1st time that we have won a series---certainly against a Top 10 team.
Excellent job, boys!!!

Big win by the Flames today! Congrats to the whole team. They even held up in a tough bottom of the 10th (I think) where Vandy had the bases loaded with 1 out.
We could very easily be 6-1 right now. Let's hope this series win propels us forward and doesn't give us a big head that causes us to stumble.

Listened to the final few innings. We had guys on 1st and 2nd w/ 0 outs in the 9th (I believe) and couldn't do anything with it. I thought that was our chances especially when Vandy loaded them in the 10th.
Huge!

As someone that's trying to get over basketball season as quickly as possible, this seems exciting.
But I know nothing about this baseball team. Are they actually legit? Are there preseason Horizon League rankings to go off of?

I saw somewhere on Twitter that this was the first time we have won a series vs. a ranked since taking 2 of 3 against Tennessee when they were #19 in 2007. Quite an accomplishment!
As far as how 'legit' we are, that is hard to say. We are a good team and there is no denying that but the program has disappointed recently (i.e. not living up to expectations). Wright State has owned the league recently and when you look at factors such as facilities for UIC vs WSU, there is no way that should be the case. But they've done some awesome things and were definitely a good representative for the HL in the tournament last season.
We were pegged #2 in the conference preseason behind Wright State so we have the talent. I think it would be fair to say that we occasionally play up/down to our talent. Point being we went 2-2 against some pretty bad competition and then 2-1 vs. a Top 10 team. So a young season, there is promise, but still a lot to happen.
We travel to Missouri next week who is unranked but 7-1. Would be awesome to get another series win!
Side note: Wright State and Youngstown State both played ranked teams (South Carolina and Georgia Tech). While neither won a series, both went 1-2 so not a bad weekend for the HL Second side note: Georgia Tech comes and visits UIC for a weekend series at the end of April. I can't say for sure but seems pretty rare to have such an opponent (a ranked team) come to our stadium so definitely going to try to make it out for one of those.
