Pitcher Connor Ryan was selected in the 8th Round by Cincinnati. Congrats, Connor.
(Kind of a surprise since his ERA of 3.10 is no big deal and he pitched only 29 innings)

Catcher Rob Calabrese, the HL Player of the Year, was a 10th Round selection by San Francisco. Congrats, Rob.
Decent catchers are at a huge premium in MLB. Hopefully, Rob can eventually make it to the Bigs.

Congratulations for the drafted Flames so far. Would have to believe there are several more still coming.
In regards to Rob Calabrese - very interested in what he does. Being drafted 10th round is impressive. However, he kind of 'came outnof nowhere' in terms of draft level this past season. If he comes back and replicates this past season have to believe he'd shoot up in terms of draft rankings. However, at the 10th round and showing promise is awesome as well.
Good luck to him either way.

I don't think there's any chance that he comes back for his senior season. Even college guys drafted in the 40th Round or higher go pro. His projected signing bonus is $132,500 based on his slot in the draft.
One thing I found very interesting in Rob's career at UIC. His Freshman year he batted .232, Sophomore season he hit .216. This year his batting average was .353. Great to see a UIC player actually improve dramatically, something that rarely happened in Men's Basketball under Collins.

Very interesting on his stats and great for him and the coaching staff as well. I'm sure just about all guys going to play college ball dream of getting drafted (and we know most won't) but when a coaching staff shows they can help players improve and get drafted that reflects quite well.
In regards to Rob Calabrese, good for him. I saw a preseason article about HL players to watch for in terms of being drafted and he wasn't listed in the top 10 of the league. Awesome work. I also didn't realize signing bonuses were that respectable even later on in the draft. Glad him and the other Flames can pursue their professional dreams. From NYC to Chicago to San Fran.

Did I completely miss Dahlberg being drafted? If not, how in the hell is he still on the table?
I think Rob's 1 very productive year out of 3 hurt him. Look at Milwaukee's catcher go in the 2nd round...probably because he was more consistent over a longer period of time. Rob could come back and go much higher if he put together another MVP type of year, but it's super risky because if he dips back down to the low .200s, his stock would plummet. Gotta go pro I think.

The MLB draft is weird with how players are eligible and how teams have slotted amounts. I don't know all the details but I'd guess part of the reason for Jake's not being drafted yet lies in him being a SR. If he is drafted he will go to that team. No question whereas a underclassmen or HS player might not. He's a commodity teams can wait on for that reason.
My thoughts and kind of confusing even when I read it, ha. But he will definitely get the call.

FOUR more guys drafted, bringing the total to 6---the most EVER by an HL team (according to UIC Baseball's Twitter page) 18th Round--McDonald 20th Round--Cronin 21st Round--Dahlberg (finally) 30th Round--Bohanek Still 10 rounds to go, but I think we're out of eligible players.

SIX guys drafted!!! Could you find a better recruiting tool than that?
On the down side, we lose 3 players (including our top 2 hitters) that would have been stars on next year's team.
Repeating next year just got a whole lot more difficult.

Baseball draft and process is much different than basketball and football. Just because a guy is drafted doesn't mean he has to go right away. Seniors, yes, but underclass guys can stay and the team retains some ownership without a contact signing for a while.... A little complicated but avenues for the players to still play in college and even reenter a draft again later, too, I believe. Had a friend's son do that. Was drafted out of high school. Didn't sign, went to college. Reentered the draft later after his junior year..... Then suffered an injury..... Now, currently rehabbing.....
