I skimmed most of all of the links/articles posted. It pisses me off but what are we going to do about it? Nothing.
Big D made a good point and observation that Urbana-Champaign is protecting itself against a situation like between the SIU campuses.
I'm just angry, as others said, about how the U of I system works. UIC gets none of the shine while UIUC reaps 100% of the benefits - kind of vague but you know the feel im talking about. Heck, UIC could probably do something innovative and the credit would somehow be attributed to UIUC.
I know this thread was posted a long time ago but I just stumbled across it and I was already steaming because Federer just lost in the US Open lol. Probably should call it a night at this point.

From the past articles I've read regarding this idea of the DPI (and I'd love to read the recent Crain's articles in the link, but am not a subscriber and can't get past the pay wall, so if somebody could post a copy of the article, maybe as a .PDF, would be appreciative.....), it appears it was initiated by the good Governor Rauner. Being realistic, President Killian cannot tell the governor, "we don't think it's a good idea", or "we already have a presence in Chicago, it's called UIC", and still keep his job. By the same reasoning, Arimidis cannot say "we are the U of I presence in Chicago, and we think we should have the lead in this DPI", and keep his job. I know I'm stating the obvious, but that's the way it is. So therefore, UIC should advocate for getting as much out of this as possible, and if that's the addition of JMLS, a new research building for the College of Pharmacy, etc, so be it. The new computer science building for the COE was actually proposed a couple of years ago. We SHOULD demand that the new chemistry building that was promised when Quinn was governor should now be fully funded and moving forward. I think it was actually approved by the BOT over 5-6 years ago.
