We got another commitment today. This one is from 6’5” Guard Isaiah Rivera. Isaiah will be a Senior next year. He is from Geneseo, Illinois but has played the past 3 years for Colorado State.
This past year was easily his most productive as he averaged 8.6 PPG, 3.7 RPG, and 1.9 APG. This past year was his first and only as a starter.
Can’t see any Tweet about schools reaching out to him after he entered the portal on 3/28 but seems like a heck of a pickup.

I can tell you a few things. All good. * Isaiah had a ton of interest minutes into being entered into the portal. Interest from coast-to-coast from multiple conferences, including P5. * You are going to love him. He has an incredibly high character, works extremely hard, and plays very hard. * His relationship with Coach Yaklich was huge in UIC getting him. They have clicked since LY was at Michigan and they were looking at Zay when he was in early high school. * He has a tremendous family, and you will likely often notice several of them at a game. * He has 2 years of eligibility left. * Coach Yaklich is working really hard and is making some things happen. Give him time.

Looks like a quality addition for us. A Jace Carter replacement, but maybe better numbers?
47% FG, 38% 3FG, a very nice 86% FT, more than 3:1 assist:TO ratio, led team in minutes per game, and defends without fouling (under 2 fouls per game). On top of that, an Illinois kid.
Andrew King replaces Jalen Jackson.
But where are the bigs? Need two impact bigs.

I thought Rivera has 3 years of eligibility with the Covid year added.

I thought Rivera has 3 years of eligibility with the Covid year added. Looks like he’s actually played for 3 years. So I guess only two left with the added Covid year.

Excited about this one. Put up really solid numbers in a better conference than the MVC.

From a relative who goes to a lot of CSU games:
He's been a decent role player for CSU the last three years. Has a good all around game- not a star, but a good contributor on both ends of the floor. Seems like a good guy who was well liked by CSU fans (except those who invariably wanted more from him.) Not sure why he left CSU, but perhaps to play closer to home since he is from Illinois. Sorry to see him go and hope he does well for UIC.
