Bessanty Saragba, our Freshman Center, has decided to transfer.
Played very limited minutes last season. There seem to be a rush of transfers over this past weekend all throughout NCAA. I’m not sure why. We haven’t signed any big men so far so perhaps this is a sign we are close to doing that and the player and coach realize his minutes would be even more limited next year? Purely speculation by me.
Good luck to Bessanty on his next endeavor.

According to The Athletic, yesterday was the last day players could enter the transfer portal and be eligible to play this fall at their new schools. However, that may be only for football players; not sure if that applies to basketball. While I don't like to see any players leave UIC, I seem to remember that Saragba was a last-minute addition just before school started, and he didn't play very much. Doubt that he is critical to UIC's future plans.

I hope this means we have another two bigs coming in…at least. Coach mentioned last season that the plan is for Jaden Brownell to put on significant weight and be a bigger presence. But he’s a shooter. I want to see a big PF that can score inside. I know they don’t grow on trees but we need something inside. Valley teams have a player like this. We had one in Braelen Bridges, who somehow couldn’t get on the floor under Yak but flourished before under McClain and after in the SEC at Georgia. One of the big head-scratchers under Yak so far.
Anyway, I’ll take 2 PFs or a PF and C, please.

I believe this to be a "run-off" play by Yak. Saragba really didn't fit in Coach Yak's plans. Hopefully this also means Yak has a couple of big guys lined up and ready to get it on! The '23-'24 season will be Coach's 4th year coming up and there's definitely the pressure to show marked improvement in the Valley.
