I think he's back too unfortunately to see this stud PG thru. The entire key to next season is whether Jones comes back to play with Harris or goes on to a bigger program to get NBA exposure. Jones can easily play at a big ten or Big 12 school. Probably needs to add some toughness and muscle. This is another beef against Yak. You don't see other teams in valley losing their best players every year. Devries is a coaches son but he's an example along with Domask who played 4 at SIU and some of the other studs in the league. If jones comes back to play with Harris you're going to have a pretty dynamic backcourt. I do agree Yak seems like a great guy. As for the rotation it's a total joke. Clay should always be getting 15-20 a game He's arguably best shooter on team. Fens playing time as I have harped on is so mind boggling I don't know what to say. He comes in last night has an awesome alley oop then gone. Our D struggled I thought Ojukwu could of guarded some of their scrappy guards

I would place a large wager that he is not back next year. A few thoughts - 1. Coach is going to be back next year. I don’t think otherwise for a moment. He had two years left on his deal and he is staying. I like Coach as a person. We have a nice looking CPS recruit coming in. But I just don’t know how many coaches are in his position - middling for the first four years - and then turn the program around. Just no excitement around the program and how can he build that after 4 years of below average? 2. I have no clue how playing time is decided. No understanding. And as a thread say a week ago, there are factors. Yes. We know. But teams have their rotations and good players should be on the court. It’s almost March and we have huge uncertainty with Clay, Fens, Ojukwu. Mind you, I think most of us have faith they can be solid players but we just don’t know. Case in point, tonight Fens got 2 minutes of playing time and Ojukwu got none. Clay got 8 points in 8 minutes and for all we know will get benched next game. L

Flamesfan do you have an inside source on that? I’d think with his contract he’d get one more year. Not being accusatory if it’s just a gut feeling, genuinely curious if you know something most of us don’t.

Rumors are swirling and the buyout isn’t crazy expensive I can see them making a move after this season

I have no idea what our athletic finances are like but it really depends on how that contract reads. Before his 1-year extension, we could have fired him this May 1 for 50% of his base salary of ~430k…so buyout of around ~215k. I would’ve put money on him being out. His extension says that the termination clauses will be amended, which I’m guessing means it’ll be 75%. But is it 75% of 428k or 75% of 856k (two years of salary)? I would be shocked if UIC just ate 600k+ to buy him out. Although at $12/beer, maybe they’ve made enough.
Nowadays, with the portal, if you’re in the conference basement after 4 years, it’s not gonna happen, and trying to make it happen even 1 more year is just wasting time.
