Holy cow. This is a shock to me. I mean the performance warrants it, but I figured we wouldn’t pony up.
Let’s get this thing turned around.

This only happened because two other coaches who were at least mid, got fired. Cant keep someone whos done nothing while everyone else in the league is making changes

I'm shocked but it's the right move. The guy had passion but really struggled With player rotation and scheme. Hope Carlos Harris still comes but doubt it now that will hurt!!!

The people that said Yak should of stayed haven't been watching this crap for 4 years like us. As I mentioned my buddy and a Uic alum is an nba executive and he is going to call UIC AD and recommend some guys. Can't reveal who right now.

This is very surprising.
I think the firing of the two other coaches did have an impact. They had more success but it wasn’t enough. We need to show we are MVC serious and that does it.
However, now the next step is to show we want to continue to be serious. That means hiring the right guy and investing in the program. Get the NIL up and running and serious. Get the right staff in order. Invest in the game day. It must be done.
The fact is this - I don’t think we are very attractive job right now. We haven’t had success in a while and qualified guys have come and failed. Others will and should be leery.

And yes - Twitter defends him. He is a respected coach but not as a head coach.

Keep this name in mind in next few days. Ronald Chin Coleman.
Former uic assistant. Chicago public league ball player turned coach at Whitney Young. Hits all the boxes. Recuiting dikembe dixon to uic and knows the university. Recuits well. Been on Illinois and Kentucky staff.
I know everyone wants Dee Brown and Tim Anderson but Coleman hits same boxes but better recuiter and better coach

The people that said Yak should of stayed haven't been watching this crap for 4 years like us. That’s a bingo. I’m glad the AD is showing some urgency here and putting winning over money in the short term. I have never seen the Pavilion so empty, and there were just no answers for the years of scoring droughts, 2nd half collapses, and just overall mistakes. Nothing was getting better. I wonder how much input the new Chancellor had in this. So what now? We’re beginning another cycle and how/why will it be different this time? I really think we need someone that is winning now as a head coach and has coached in big games. No more assistants. No more power 5 recruiters. No more retreads that won 10 years ago but nothing since. We need someone hungry that wants to move up, and someone, for the love of god, that can run a disciplined, fundamentally-sound system, and develop talent (including bigs). If we get another coach in here that can’t inbound a ball, or chooses to implement 1 on 1 offense, I’m going to lose it. Btw, can’t say I’m a big fan of the Dee Brown idea. Just not enough experience. Seems risky to me. Here’s to hoping whatever consulting firm we’ve used over the past 3 head coach hires is not called upon again.

Getting rid of Yak with two years left is a big financial investment. We better be prepared to invest in the whole program if we are going to do this.
And Lipitz - this hiring will make or break you too.

I really wanted CJ to stay, but I'm guessing he doesn't want to be a part of a "rebuild" I can't blame him. My guess is that Clay also transfers, he was really close with CJ and Pickett
Gotta rethink what we thought about players like Skobalj

I would love to get a successful D2 coach or low major winner. We don’t have much resources right now so needs someone to know how to win with not much
