Day 1 is almost over. Every year, the upsets are a huge storyline. And then every year, the selection committee does everything they can to include less and less midmajor teams. Stupidity. The tournament is still great, but it's lost some for me, and it is not heading in the right direction.
Random notes for the day -
Oakland - wow! Just amazing. Great job, Grizzlies.
Drake - I thought they had it. There was a string of a few minutes about 8 minutes into the second half that the refs called I believe four fouls on Drake almost consecutively. It put Washington State in the bonus so early. It wasn't the only reason they lost, but damn that hurt.

I feel like two years in a row Drake fell apart in the closing minutes. Once Brodie went out I figured that was the end of it. Devries, two years in a row, just didn’t play like a Valley POY. FTs were a killer. Gotta make your freebies. Oh well, at least they competed. Far better than we’ve ever done when there.
Oakland was incredible. Just clutch shots. I know Kampe would probably never leave Oakland, but I do wonder what he could do for us. Good recruiter, and his system works. And he holds his guys accountable.

Kampe, at 68, would do wonders here at UIC. Even at his age, he relates to the young players. With our resources, he’d definitely get the job done…and our non-con schedule would better prepare us for Valley play.
