sorry for touching a nerve there Jason, i guess the point that seemed a little odd to me was that you guys took a theard that was directed to be about your game from a while ago and then you guys jsut kinda ran with. don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with that in any way, but maybe it's jsut a bit of the mindset of this weekend coming thru in my post. as contradicting as this may sound to a few here i really wasn't trying to start any kind of verbal mud-slinging so if it really bothered you that bad, sorry for that

I just think this rivalry is great sometimes, and when I look at other message boards for big schools filled with fair weather fans, everything becomes this ridiculous trash talking that doesn't make any sense. UIC and UWM don't have LOTS of fans...we have good fans. It's not a big deal. I can't figure out if there is a way to split threads...otherwise, this certainly would have been one of those. I can't say good luck...but here's to a good game today.

"FreeRadical, you seem to be a fan who's a little too proud of UIC. The Pavilion is a nice and cozy arena, and this is why I like it, but how can you compare it to places like the United Center? Clearly you've been drugged."
mayurT:
Do you want to talk about stadiums, or do you want to talk about ME? I very clearly outlined MY criteria. And it has little to do with what the Bulls, Bears or the Flames do on the court.
At any rate, sandwiched between your plonk-bait is a legitimate question, so I am going to take the time to answer it.
How can I compare a grand stadium with a small one?
I've tried to confine my discussion of the Pavilion to the elements that I believe have resulted in a superior facility within it's class, ie, small stadium.
In crossing categories, I think the question becomes what does the Pavilion have in common with Wrigley Field that it doesn't with Comiskey Park or the United Center?
Two obvious ones come to mind:
1. NO SKYBOXES OR CLUB SEATS WERE CONTEMPLATED IN THE ORIGINAL DESIGN. This results in better seating in general, and SIGNIFICANTLY better nosebleeds.
2. Both Wrigley field and the Pavilion, AS SPORTS FACILITIES, are functionally obsolete - they are anchromisms. This gives them charm.
In the case of Wrigley Field, it is obvious, and I don't think it merits discussion.
The charm of the Pavilion, on the other hand, is NOT the charm of a grand historic structure. Its closer to the charm of a well-maintained Berwyn bungalow. Built like a brick s@#!-house, comfy as your old sneakers, makes optimal use of limited space. and would NEVER get built that way today.
You DO realize that if the baketball program ever really does take off, they'll have to tear it down or move, don't you?
