Mounir Hima is on an official visit to Syracuse right now. He’s gonna have to get through this for UIC to have a chance. Granted, he’s going to be a backup for two years to Jesse Edwards…so why he’d want that…no idea. Of course, if Syracuse wants him, they’d probably just flat out pay him with NIL money. Maybe that’s the attraction? I’d still like to know how NIL comes into play for UIC. Saw Antoine Davis is going back to Detroit and getting a deal.

I do realize NIL is basically the draw as to all of these transfers, but I just can't see Hima playing for Boeheim. Money is one thing, but I still think playing in an environment where you get along with your teammates and like/respect the coach plays a part as well. I know nothing of Boeheim or his relationships with his players, but quite a few of these guys want to play for young "player friendly" coaches.

Duquesne transfer center Mounir Hima has committed to Syracuse, the 6-11 big announced on Twitter Wednesday afternoon.
"After a great visit and great conversation with Coach Boeheim, coach G-Max (sic), coach Reid (sic) and the rest of the staff," Hima wrote on Twitter. "I am excited to announce that I will be committing to Syracuse University. Thank you to my family, coaches, friends and everyone that has been helping along the way."

We still have a few spots available and still several needs. We have some promising underclassmen but could use some more veteran, impactful players. Illinois State and especially Missouri State are not slowing down on getting some pretty impactful transfers and getting pretty late in the game about now.

Today's the last day to sign. If we don't hear anything in the next day or so the team we have now is what we will roughly have. Better not getting a player that doesn't fit than forcing the issue

Should be some announcements in the next couple days or so. Should also be an announcement concerning Damaria Franklin as well...whether he's actually leaving UIC or not.

Today's the last day to sign. If we don't hear anything in the next day or so the team we have now is what we will roughly have. Better not getting a player that doesn't fit than forcing the issue I think this is only the case for NLIs. Transfers can continue to sign because they sign other agreements. From the mvcfans board, “The spring signing period ends 5/18 but that may not be super relevant you only sign one NLI in college. When you transfer, you sign a financial aide agreement or an offer of admission.” So basically, I’m pretty sure we have to fill out our roster using the portal now…but we still have time.

Thanks Big D, I took it literally. I believe Bryant Lowe from the 1998 team was a last minute signee and was a very good player. There were probably others as well

It looks like we have a very interesting commitment this evening!
6’5” Guard Christian Jones of East St Louis committed to us tonight. He is a 3 star recruit. A combo guard that is a top 300 recruit according to Rivals. He originally committed to Missouri but asked out of his commitment after their coaching change.
On a side note, I love that fellow incoming PG Jalen Jackson is one of the first to comment on his Twitter post of this!
Loving our freshman class!

So I guess the disproves my previous post?
This late in the game, he looks like a good signing. Good all-around stats. I mean Missouri saw something. Apparent he is way under the radar, partly due to Covid. Save a screenshot of his 3 stars. They’ll probably dock him one now that he’s not going to a power conference.
Need another big body.

Looks like it’s Shaun Williams from California State. Started out playing for Kansas St under Bruce Weber before transferring to California State. Averaged almost 10 ppg last season and played well down the stretch. Shot about 40% from 3. This is a nice additional piece with some experience at the highest level. gorunners.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/shaun-williams/5074Wonder if this signals the end for Damaria Franklin. We’re getting a bit crowded at guard. We only have two spots left right? We really need another big man. Relying on only one freshman (Fens) would be a problem if the injury bug hits (see last year). JUCO or upperclassmen C please. So technically Damaria could fill the last spot…but with all these guard signings, makes me think we’re going a different direction.
