The Valley is changing quickly; 3 fired coaches and 2 potentially poached coaches with ISU and Drake. We could be looking at 5 teams next year with a new hc. We need to hit on this coach and make moves.
The Valley could be wide open next year.

John Calipari - whenever his team loses, it’s never his fault. Just ask him.

If the athletic director is reading this or the search firm that hiring our coach ho get A.w. Hamilton. Do not go MEAC conference.

Saw on the EKU message board that both Lipitz and Hamilton were at NC State at the same time…so that’s interesting. It seems that EKU fans are generally mixed on him.
We can offer higher salary, and a better conference, but UIC is a tough job. Is he the kind of guy up for a challenge? Attendance has improved during his time at EKU, but it will be harder to do that at UIC.

Sources: Former UAB head coach Rob Ehsan is finalizing an agreement to be the next head coach at UIC.
Ehsan was on staff at Stanford last season.

I hate this move. Ehsan was barely above 500 at UAB

Flames Fan Not sure what you're looking at but he won 20 games twice and 19 once. Well above 500.

Someone tell me how to feel. Overall known finalist list seemed very “meh” to me. We choose a guy with four years of head coach experience, where he finished middle of the pack every year. Won 20 games a couple times, but how will this translate to wins at UIC?
He’s been at Stanford overseeing a .500 or lower team every year for the past few years.

Have only scanned 15min worth of google search results on Ehsan - but this hire seems underwhelming to me too. Someone who was fired at UAB and coming off a staff at Stanford where their head coach was fired. No NCAA tournament experience. Highest conference standing finish at UAB was 5th. I hope we weren't being cheap and were looking for a "value/discount" hire here. Hope I'm wrong if he's hired - but Jones' resume seemed much better IMO

It doesn’t seem like a “knock out” hire, but, on the positive side he won 20 games twice and was over 500 every year he was the head coach (as well as 500 or better in conference play). Maybe he’s not the coach that will guide us to the ultimate goal of consistent tournament teams, but if he can bring to us what he brought to UAB and just make us pretty good and competitive-it’s a huge step forward.

Maybe he’s not the coach that will guide us to the ultimate goal of consistent tournament teams, but if he can bring to us what he brought to UAB and just make us pretty good and competitive-it’s a huge step forward. What did he bring UAB exactly? From what I see on sports-reference, UAB was a 20-win team (along with multiple NCCA tourney bids) for majority of 20 seasons before he took the head coach role. I don't have context on UAB, but on records alone, it looks like he more inherited/maintained a solid mid-major program based off record data and NCAA. And then it seemed like UAB made it back to tourney after he was fired. www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/alabama-birmingham/men/2020.html
Again, hope I'm wrong here. But hire seems odd and kinda like a discount/value play - or a "slightly more comforting" Yak version of hire (as he at least has some Head Coach experience)
