Yep, I think Mullins is the call. He knows the Chicagoland area and is a young coach who can relate to the players well.

Yep - saw the same thing re: Cuervo. I know nothing of him but he did accept another job and he’s had some shady past.

Not hiring Mullens (I heard he is very interested) would be a massive miss, and another black eye for Lipitz. Hire Jones and watch the free fall continue. Chicago State here we come, if we aren't already there.

I would say Mullens is an easy choice. MVC experience. Local. Do it.
However, I don’t know anything about Jones but don’t see anything bad from what I have heard.

Yeah, I prefer either Mullens or Jones. I don't really care about this eastern Kentucky guy tbh. It might be safe to say that we can rule out any non-head coaches. Looks like the AD is looking for actual experience head coaching

Mullins is the safe choice, but did he even apply? That would say a lot about what he thinks of the job. He’s recruited some stars, and has had more winning seasons at SIU than we’ve probably had in two decades. But is he/UIC good enough to get to that next level? If he loses here, I think it says bad things about this job.
Jones is intriguing but a gamble. Seems a little less polished (more real, I guess) but I don’t like the ISU controversy last year. Whether ISU did anything wrong or not, in the moment, coach believed something wrong happened to a player, and had his back…so I’m fine with that. But I don’t want a pattern of this stuff happening. He hasn’t been to as many NCAA tourneys as I’d like considering all the time he’s spent at the top of that conference, but I can look past that because anything goes in a one and done conference tourney.
I know nothing about AW Hamilton, but his career record is nothing special.
We have got to get this hire right.

AW Hamilton is intriguing only from the standpoint he plays a fun brand of basketball. EKU has always been one of the fastest paced teams in the country. Will that lead to wins in the Valley? Not sure

Michael Sauls @mcsauls · 14m From ESPN: “UIC still has a few names on its list, but Eastern Kentucky's AW Hamilton is emerging as a legitimate candidate there”
I’d assume Norfolk State’s Robert Jones is one of the “few names” still on UIC’s list

Here’s a last minute idea. Throw Oakland’s Kampe 750k and the ace up our sleeve…free Portillo’s…one of his favorites. That guy has rebuilt Oakland more times in the last 10 years than we’ve ever contended in D1 history. Hell of a win by them against Kentucky.

A coach, who brings excitement to the program, can recruit incredibly well for a school of his size, and then keeps rebuilding and wins.
Sign me up.
I’ll buy his Italian beef for a year.

Am I the only one that feels we are rock bottom as a program right now? We have like 6/7 guys in the roster no coach, 4 win conf season, coach fired, Horrible attendance. Thank god for DePaul being so bad ha

I think that the roster numbers is directly connected to the coaching change. I mean, look at SIU - I don't think they have anyone on their. roster at the moment. That is going to happen with a coaching change.
But yes - the other points are valid. And I think those are a big part of the coaching change.
That is why a new hire needs to be a home run hire because of the very little interest in the program all around. We need someone to come in and change that and do it pretty quickly.
