Hey on the plus side at least none of these guys thought they were NBA prospects and left to test the waters. Looking at you Dixon. Only to do jack s@#! and getting a sniff for a G League game. I’ll never understand how that move made any sense. But with that said mid major programs will never be the same again until they stop this transfer s@#!.

I disagree Spike. Mid-majors just have to adapt and adjust to the transfer portal. Look at UNC Asheville they picked up Drew Pember from Tennessee who barely played there and he now he is Big South player of the year! Also mid/low majors will be able to get better high school players since the big boys are so focused on transfers.

We saw Franklin and Stevenson move on. They barely played. Both could have been 1st Team MVC (not saying they would but could have had a chance).
For them, they played in a big time program and made the tourney. But with significantly less playing time and impact.
What does a player want - which would they prefer?
The fact is that even a big time program can only have so many players, minutes, and shots. We need to hit on those guys that are stuck behind someone, maybe a Frosh that got stuck behind a transfer, and hit on that for us.
However, the whole process is frustrating I’d say.

Watching all these tourney games it's so vital to have a pick and pop big like Nunge on Xavier for example. He's mobile, can shoot and athletic and sets picks. We really need a big that can do this or possibly Fens develops into this type of player.

Actually Brownell is more that type of player so far, but who knows how they're going to develop Wisconsin has a long history of getting those types of players

Greg no. Nunge is 7tft and plays way better D and is a way better rebounder. Is Brownell even 6ft9? He's a liability on D and doesn't rebound.

Brownell in 6-9 Fens is 6-10 They both have a lot to work on, but both could be good They are different players

Great way of looking at potential transfers Camfan. Its interesting how many teams have totally turned around in one year due to the transfer portal so it can be done here. Should be a very interesting session. BTW always like reading your posts

Great list Cam Fan. We have said it for years that we have so much talent in this area and are perplexed why we don't do more to tap into it. Not sure of the stats or rankings of any of them but I know that Noah Reynolds was pretty highly regarded.

Makes sense he is leaving UIC with this rationale. We need guys who value playing and have a chip on their shoulder for our new recruits!

Jace’s comments point to how important it is that UIC develops a fan base and a culture. Many will say those things go along with winning which of course they do. But UIC can’t sit back and wait until we somehow win. Put some fans and enthusiasm into the Pavilion now, and at least we’ll have some kind of chance to recruit the kind of players that we need to win. With the present environment it will be impossible to attract and keep talent. I thought Carters comments were very interesting.

Wow, he just came right out and said it. He wants the exact opposite of UIC. Comes off kind of harsh, but the truth hurts I guess. Maybe it’ll be a wake-up call for management.
Also odd that he implied he wasn’t happy with the coaching staff.
With that said, all players deserve some responsibility for the current condition of the program. Stop playing and making mistakes like D2 players, stop choking away late leads, stop getting blown out and going on many-minute scoring droughts. Do that and start winning and the fans will be there. You can either help build it and make your mark, or move on into that turn-key program where you’re likely going to be forgotten.

I didn’t necessarily read that as a shot at the coaching staff. Maybe my second or third read, could look at that part about the ‘entire’ coaching staff.
Me personally? Damn, that is depressing. It is all true though. It’s things we have said. And it is hard to hear still. Especially knowing we’ve done nothing about it. And that is a quote that recruits can easily see too.
My worry is this - we can never build that. We haven’t yet. What makes us think we can? Or that anyone associated cares enough even?

I firmly believe we CAN build it, just very skeptical we will. If UIC funded their program like an upper-middle of the pack A-10 team (and I do think we have the money to do that) all of a sudden we’d be more competitive and have more fan engagement. Just need to throw money at it! Spend 6 mil a year on the program!
