And that is a quote that recruits can easily see too. Not just recruits but what about the current players? Great way to make them feel good about the program. Honestly, it’s just kind of a jerk thing to say…true or not.

I have not always been the biggest fan of Jace, he is an amazing talent, just have not been a fan of the show boating on the court. That being said, I feel he is spot on with every word he said. Culture and coaching staff are biggest problem this team faces. Unless some real changes start to take place, this program will struggle greatly.

Yak, has to change up his coaching tactics. He was too focused on trying to keep certain players happy and lost focus on playing team ball to win. I believe if every player knew they could go into the portal and get picked up they would have all left.

I kind of felt this way especially when Anderson was getting so many minutes and the younger guys not as much as a result (esp Jalen with the same position).
The fact is Jace laid it out - to players, the academic ranking of the school isn’t even on the radar. Culture, environment, basketball passion - that’s it. Take note UIC.

Think about certain games when the bench played well if it was an injury or starters in foul trouble. The next game he played them for 5-10 mins if that. It was all about who he wanted to shine. Looked what happen, they all left.

If you ask me (and nobody has) Jalen & Jace should have been your starting backcourt. Toby Okani and Christian Jones are your forwards and Cam Fens is your man in the middle. Steven Clay is your 6th man until he replaces Okani later in the season. The freshmen class was full of 3-star, all-state type players and should have played a lot more. Also Coach Yak should've had iso plays for Jones, who was the best one-on-one player on the squad. Yaklich just misplayed his whole roster. He needs to truly learn to make adjustments.

Greg, I'm talking about Yak not playing his bench only used them when needed and they shined. Then sat then right back on the bench and didn't keep them in the rotation or played other games.

Clay/Fens did not get consistent playing time at all this year. Clay was their best shooter from 3 too which was a weakness. Fens deserved so much more time than he got. I really hope both are back but wouldn't be shocked if they both leave. Not sure where this program goes from here.

Camfan told you before Fens is staying

Greg when did Cam Fan say that? Obsess is a strong word but when 3-4 players leave per postseason it's hard not to think it's gonna happen.

I'm sure I saw it somewhere but I will let Camfan speak for himself Where do you see "3-4" players leave? I have only seen 2

I didn't see it and I meant 3-4 per year. The off-season is young still give it time. Yak's lost a ton of kids since he started the stats don't lie and that's not be obsessing.

Easy peeps! Everyone has legit concerns and thoughts on what may happen. I don't foresee any additonal players leaving. There are over 600 players in the portal as of today. Many kids on the team last year did not get to shine enough to make them desireable in the portal. There is a lot of telent floating around out there. Let's just hope UIC can pick up a couple key guards and go from there.
As I sais previously JJ was a shock to me. I really thought he would stay and become a team leader. Jace....he was a given! Who knows where he will end up, but put his ego aside the kid knows who and where he wants to be. UIC was without question, simply a stepping stone for his next chapter.
That aside, Cam will certainly be back next season, and likely so will the rest of the team. Personally, his minutes of play and how he was played were beyond frustrating this past year. It is easy to shift blame elsewhere, however he knows what he needs to do this offseason. Accountability, desire and a whole lot of hard work is all he himself can control. My biggest hope for him is he came in this past season as a boy, and does all he needs to enter this coming season as a man. I know he has it in him!
